Elementary Division (1st-6th)
Denver Academy is committed to the development of the whole child, especially at the elementary level. Our program and curriculum are designed to foster a love of learning. The Elementary Division strives to enhance basic academic skills while exploring areas of individual strengths. We individualize our curriculum through the use of Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences and varying learning and teaching styles. We stress respect and responsibility while encouraging our students to develop a sense of their own uniqueness in a caring and safe environment.
Our goal is to help our students reach their academic and social potentials while working at an independent level in an inclusive, attentive community. To help students reach their potential, we start hiring and training wonderful teachers. (Read more about the Elementary Division teachers here!) All of our Elementary teachers have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Additionally, we have Literacy Specialists working one-on-one with our students to enrich their learning and development.
"Our child is thriving like never before. We feel like his teachers are truly teaching to his learning style and they genuinely care about his success." - DA Elementary Parent
Teachers discuss and examine virtues such as honesty, respect, responsibility, kindness, perseverance, generosity and humility during our Character Education classes. Conflict resolution, maintaining friendships and creating a sense of community are also taught during this class.
All students participate in drama, art and music. Students are introduced to the digital arts and computer use through a specialized technology class. Finally, every elementary student attends physical education class on a daily basis! The P.E. program stresses healthy living while introducing students to a variety of sports and athletic skills.
Ultimately, students enrolled in the DA Elementary Division realize that school and learning are fun!
