The Denver Academy libraries offer access to a wide variety of print, non-print, and electronic materials. Our historic Chapel Library houses resources for Lower School students, and our High School Media Center and computer lab is geared towards Upper School students.
Resources offered include nonfiction materials, class novels and other fiction materials, audiobooks, ebooks, DVDs, and magazines. Full-text online databases offer access to print and video resources, and instruction on the utilization of all library resources is offered to students individually or within groups.
We strive to help students develop critical thinking and media literacy skills. Our goal is that students will be comfortable in libraries and that they will have the skills needed to continue on as lifelong library users. Jolene Gutiérrez, Denver Academy Librarian, joined DA in 1995. Prior to working in Denver Academy’s library, she worked at Caliche High School’s library and Sterling Public Library. She received her Master’s degree in Library Science in 1998 from Emporia State University. She’s loved books since she read A Horse Called Dragon by Lynn Hall in 2nd grade, and she’s loved writing since her 2nd grade teacher typed up some of her stories and “published” them for her. She self-published a young adult novel in 2011 and continues to write children’s books. One of her favorite things in the world is connecting students to the just-right book that will transform them into lifelong readers.
